Your Church Needs a Website

And a good one. It's part of doing business in today's world, whether you're an actual business...or a church.

Unfortunately, most churches either have no website, or a bad one. Smaller churches often lack people with the necessary know-how, and can't afford to pay someone to do it for them. And if they manage to publish a site, it's probably not terribly friendly with Google and other search engines.

The national office has developed a service to provide quality websites to United Brethren churches. You provide the information. We then design your site around one of several templates and host the site on our server. For three years.

To do this, we charge only a nominal fee of $150. Peanuts. Dirt cheap.

Who Can Participate?

This is only for churches in the United Brethren in Christ denomination. It is aimed more specifically at smaller churches, which have basic web-related needs and fewer resources than larger churches. The church must be okay with the Terms and Restrictions.

This website provides all the information you need to get started. That includes:

Expectations. If you're not on the web, you don't exist. That's how people think today. Folks expect a business to have a website. And they expect the same of churches--or at least, any church they would want to attend.

Looks Count. Some people make decisions about what church to visit merely on the basis of who has a sharp looking website. A shoddy website, to them, is a reflection of the church.

Searching for a Church. People who move into your community may start with Google--not the phonebook--to find a church. They'll put in a few search words, like the word "church" and the name of the city. That'll turn up some church sites. They'll check out those sites and attend a church based on what they learn.

Thanks to Google and the other search engines, you'll attract people who might never discover your church otherwise.

Directons and Service Times. These are the two pieces of information people most expect from a church website. They don't expect to find this in the Yellow Pages. They do expect a website to tell them when services start and how to get there.

Learning and Screening. People can learn a lot about your church before even visiting. They will read about your history, your beliefs, your ministries, your worship style, and much more. In this way people weed out churches that probably wouldn't appeal to them, and visit only churches that seem like a good match.

Plus, when they arrive at your church for the first time, they don't feel totally lost. They've read about what to expect. They've seen pictures of your facility and of your pastor. There is some familiarity.
